Due to the fact that the video sequences contained in The WPA Multimedia Collection are meant to be used not only for enjoyment, but also for authoring and production, the QuickTime¬ movie files have not been optimized for CD-ROM.  This means that the files will play back more smoothly if they are being played from your hard drive.

  6. You can use the WPA Movie Browser to copy movies to your hard drive, or you can simply drag files from the CD-ROM to your hard drive.

If you have 8-bit (256 colors) or 16-bit (Thousands of colors) graphics capability on your system, you can use the stack called "Click Me for Color!", which uses a 640X480 color interface.  "Click Me for Speed!" uses a smaller, black & white interface (although the movies still play in color on a color machine) and operates much faster.  Both stacks, however, have the same functionality.

  15. Drag the "Car Stuff" folder from the CD onto your hard drive.  It will take up about 2.5 megabytes of space.  Inside Car Stuff are the two versions of the WPA Movie Browser, the QuickTime¬ 1.5 system extension, the QuickTime¬ movie player, the HyperCard player and the Home stack.

  17. If you don't already have QuickTime¬ installed in your system, drag the QuickTime¬ extension out of the "Car Stuff" folder on the CD-ROM and into your System Folder.  Your Mac will ask you if it's okay to put QuickTime¬ in the Extensions folder - it is.

  19.                                                 *** MEMORY THINGS ***

The HyperCard player is set up to use 3000K of memory.  This is so that it has enough memory to display the color backgrounds of the "Click Me for Color!" stack.  If you plan on using "Click Me for Speed!" and you don't have enough memory to give 3000K to HyperCard, you can change that number by following these steps:
  22.  1)  Open up the Car Stuff folder you copied to your hard drive
  23.  2)  Select HyperCard Player
  24.  3)  Press Command-i on your keyboard
  25.  4)  At the bottom of the HyperCard Player Info box, you'll see the number 3000 in a box
  26.       next to the words Current Size:.  Make that number smaller as you see fit.  It has to
  27.       be at least 1000.
